Inequities in health happen in part because of the circumstances in which people live and the systems put in place to deal with health. That’s why the Centre takes action on health-related issues to ensure continued improvement in the social support that affect the long-term health of our clients and community.
Through discussions with community members and elected officials, the Advocacy and Communications Action Team (ACAT) responds to important issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of Ottawans.
We are committed to advocate for our clients’ care, rights, and interests. We work with clients, members of the community, partner organizations, public officials, and political leaders to address issues including:
Past Advocacy Activities:
- Preserve community income tax clinics
- Focus on food security issues
- Promote Second Stage of Medicare
- Preserve the safe inhalation program
- Eliminate the counter-productive three-month OHIP wait period imposed on landed immigrants
