Board Recruitment
We invite everyone who live or work in our community to become involved as volunteers on our Board. We particularly welcome those who reflect the rich diversity of people living in Centretown, the Glebe, and Old Ottawa South.
We are looking for people who:
- Support our mission
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Are currently or will become a member of our Centre
- Can commit to monthly meetings, advocacy, and networking activities for a two-year term.
A Glimpse at the Work Involved
Our Board provides leadership and operates on a policy and strategic level rather than from a management focus. With this orientation, it plays a key role in developing a vision and goals for the organization. It works to set strategic directions and helps ensure that the set goals are met.
Board members serve two-year terms. Typically, this involves a commitment of eight to twelve hours per month.
Board action teams are formed as needed and may include board members, staff, and community members with experience and knowledge that relates to the issue at hand. Currently, we have two established action teams: one that relates to advocacy, and the other on board development. Others may arise based on emerging needs.
Running for a Position
Yearly board recruitment begins in the spring. New board members are elected at our Annual General Meeting in June.
If you’re interested in joining but have questions, feel free to call our Centre. We’ll gladly answer your questions and provide you with the information you need.
