Communities working together:
The Ottawa Good Food Box, a nonprofit community-based program,
is bringing neighbours together to buy delicious and nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables.
Value:
The Good Food Box sites in Ottawa get together to order quality fresh fruits and vegetables
in bulk from trustworthy suppliers. Each customer who buys a $10, $15 box or $20 box saves
because we buy our produce in large quantities from wholesalers and producers.
Convenience:
The Good Food Box is open to everyone. Customers order and pay
for their food box early each month. On the third Wednesday of the month the
produce is delivered. Payment and delivery take place at neighbourhood
sites, saving a trip to the grocery store.
Variety:
The $10 boxes are great for singles and small families, while the $15 and $20 boxes are ideal for larger households. Each month the box is a little different. Boxes always have favorites such
as potatoes, carrots, onions, tomatoes and apples. Depending on the season special good buys such
as broccoli, oranges, kiwi, strawberries, or cantaloupe are available.
Community spirit:
Customers and other community members
are invited to volunteer at the packing warehouse to help run the
program. Not only does volunteering help to keep prices low, it
also helps to build community spirit.
