About the Role
Reporting to the Early Years Program Coordinator, the Parent and Child Resource Worker provides educational, support services, and participates in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs for children and their parents, grandparents and caregivers. The Parent and Child Resource Worker will liaise with various community networks, parent groups, agencies and resources to ensure quality programs and services.
Requirements
Essential
Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
Minimum of three years experience working with children and families.
Basic understanding of the developmental needs of children and demonstrated ability to use this understanding in program practices.
Experience with adult education techniques and group facilitation skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in working with multi-cultural families and the barriers they may face, particularly those related to new Canadian families.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families and caregivers.
Ability to work well with marginalized groups and develop trusting relationships with clients in identifying needs and making referrals to Ottawa-based community resources.
Proficient with Windows-based computer systems, in particular, basic email and MS Word.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Current CPR certificate Level C; first Aid certificate ( or willingness to obtain)
Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends
Desirable
Knowledge of early childhood and community resources.
Ability to communicate in another language an asset (e.g. Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Somali, etc.)
